5th
Edition Book Release: The Ten Day MBA
By Steven Silbiger, Andersen Alumnus and
Author
When I started work in Kansas City AA office, I
intended to be one of those partners.
However, I noticed my most inspired seniors all left after three years
and went to business school. That’s exactly what I did, promoted to Senior and
left. So glad I did. How very different my MBA classes at the Darden School at
UVA were from my accounting undergrad.
The case method school was like an integrated deck of cards with all the
classes touching on the others. That is
what my goal was in writing The Ten-Day MBA. I have been so pleased that for 30
years, the evergreen bestseller of over 650,000 copies in over a dozen
languages in its 5th edition captures what a top ten MBA education
actually is. It captures all the
subjects from marketing to operations with the impatient student in mind, just
as they taught them from my notes.
My other Arthur
friends that went elsewhere contributed as well to ensure it was not just a
Darden thing. Updated 4 times since the original in 1992, it has evolved with
the times with the help of new grads and many readers’ emails and Amazon
reviews. With a new crop of MBA wanabees
each year and readers’ word of mouth, readers are looking for a leg up in the
application process, a prep before going off to school, a study guide while in
school and those just wanting a summarized but substantive MBA education at a
bargain price. I have to say the grind
of my Arthur Andersen audits with unrealistic engagement hour budgets and
creating concise workpapers with my teammates, was a great preparation to
juggle the intense demands of B-school. Although I am a marketer now, I still
value what I learned at AA & Co as an auditor.
